One month ahead. That’s the short answer for a private Angkor day with Adventures Cambodia. In November, December and January it is the minimum, not a suggestion. The rest of the year you can book closer to your date. And whatever the month, a sunrise cannot be arranged with less than 24 hours’ notice.
About 70% of our guests book three months before they travel. 20% book a month ahead. The last 10% book later than that, and those are the ones I have to work around. I see every booking come in, so these are our own numbers.
How Far Ahead Should You Book, Month by Month?
Book one month ahead for any date between November and January. For the rest of the year, less than a month is fine. A guide in French needs three months, and no sunrise can be arranged with less than 24 hours’ notice. That’s the whole table, but here it is properly.

December is the month I have to say no. Every same-week request that month gets a no, because the guides are already out with other guests. In November and January, about half of the same-week requests still get a yes. From February to October a few days is usually enough, and a booking for the day after tomorrow is normal.

What Booking Ahead Actually Changes: the Guide
Every guide who works with Adventures Cambodia holds a guide licence and has passed our own Grade A vetting. That doesn’t change with the date you book. What changes is the match. A month out, I have time for a WhatsApp chat or a call, and I can pair you with the guide who fits your day: the one who is patient with children, the one who lives for the history, the one who speaks your language. Book for the day after tomorrow and you get the guide who is free that morning. A good guide. Just not one chosen for you.
In high season the guides our regular guests ask for by name, Dara, Sothik and Smey, are the first to fill. If one of them matters to you, say so when you book. We don’t push named requests, but we do take them, and the earlier you ask the better the odds.
I’ve turned down dates rather than send someone without the licence. More than once, and always in December.
The Sunrise Tour: Same Rule, One Hard Floor
The sunrise follows the same rule as every other date: a month ahead, three if you want a particular guide or a language. What is different is the floor. We cannot arrange a sunrise with less than 24 hours' notice. Pickup for our private Angkor Wat sunrise tour is at 4:45 AM, by the Jeep or the Vespa itself, the guide and driver are set the evening before, and the guides who do sunrise go to bed early.
Last month a message came in at 9 PM asking for a sunrise the next morning. We couldn't make the sunrise happen. We could do a 10 AM pickup, so the guest still had his day at the temples, just without the dawn. That is the trade when you book late.
If the forecast worries you, book anyway. Rain at start time is rare, and we've had to move a sunrise about three times in thirteen years.

Can You Still Book for Tomorrow?
Sometimes. The booking calendar on each tour page shows the first date we can take online. If you need something sooner, send a WhatsApp message and a person in Siem Reap replies, usually within hours. We can go past the calendar when a guide and a vehicle are free. When they're not, we say so and offer the next day instead. What we won't do is send someone who has not passed our Grade A vetting to make a date work.
Guides in French, and Other Languages
French is our most requested language after English. Three months ahead is what it takes to block one of our French-speaking guides. For German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and the rest, one month is the minimum, two is better, three is ideal. Good Italian-speaking guides are rare in Siem Reap, so Italian needs the full three. Any language other than English carries a surcharge; ask and we give you the figure before you pay.

Do Angkor Wat Tickets Sell Out?
No. The Angkor Pass never sells out, and you don't need it in hand before you book a tour. You can buy it online at Angkor Enterprise up to 30 days ahead, or at the ticket office in town. For a sunrise, buy it the night before so the QR code is on your phone when we pick you up. A ticket dated for tomorrow also lets you into the park from 4:45 PM this evening, for sunset, at no extra cost.

Two, Three and Five Day Programmes
The one-month rule covers our multi-day Siem Reap programmes too. The reason is the same: the guide stays with you for the whole stay, so we are blocking one person for several days, and the ones our guests ask for fill first. Most of the guests who book three months out are booking more than one day.

Sometimes. Each tour page shows the first date available online. For anything sooner, message us on WhatsApp; if a licensed guide and a vehicle are free we take it, and if not we offer the next day. In December, same-week requests are almost never possible.
Can I get a French-speaking guide?
Yes. French is the most requested language after English, so book three months ahead to block one of our French-speaking guides. There is a surcharge for any language other than English.
Can I request a specific guide?
Yes. Tell us the name when you book and we do our best, subject to that guide being free on your date. The earlier you ask, the better the chance, especially between November and January.
