2-Day Angkor Wat Sunrise & Grand Circuit by Electric Bike
Dageraad bij Angkor, Bayon, Ta Prohm, daarna Preah Khan, Ta Som & Neak Pean
Only one early alarm. We collect you at 4:45 AM and bring you out to Angkor Wat. We do not cycle in the dark: nothing to see, and the road is not the place for it. You watch the sun come up, walk through to the back, and the bikes are waiting with breakfast by the moat. From there you ride. Day two you start when you like, on the outer loop to Preah Khan and Ta Som. Cambodia is flat, so the assist is for distance and heat.

Waarom deze twee dagen
Two mornings, two different Angkors
Sunrise from a spot we pick on the day. Your guide reads the sky and the season and takes you there, rather than the crush where the coaches drop their groups at 5:30. Afterwards you walk through the temple to the back, away from the queue.
We drive you out before dawn, you ride once it is light. There is nothing to see in the dark and the road is shared with traffic, so we cover that leg for you. Your bike is waiting at the back of Angkor Wat, ready when the light is.
Day two is the outer loop, and it stays quiet. Preah Khan, Neak Pean, Krol Ko, Ta Som, East Mebon and Srah Srang, linked by forest trail instead of the loop road. Lunch is a sit-down Khmer meal served under the trees.
The assist is for the distance, and the heat. Giant Talon E+ bikes carry a 400 Wh battery, good for 60 to 100 kilometres. If you can ride a bicycle you can ride these, and you reach the last temple as fresh as the first.

Pre-dawn · Out to Angkor Wat
~05:15 uurBinnen in Angkor Wat.
Sunrise and Angkor Wat · about two hours inside
~05:30Zonsopgang.

Angkor Wat
Bayon
The Terraces
Ta Nei

This is your private tour. Your guide reads your pace and adapts as the morning unfolds: longer at the temples that move you, a shorter stop at the ones that do not. The day moves in one direction and never doubles back. The two terraces on the route are the Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, side by side inside Angkor Thom, and you leave Angkor Thom through the Victoria Gate.
Dag 2 · Grand Circuit · Electric bike

Your guide reads your pace here too. The outer loop carries no Angkor Wat, which is part of why it stays quieter than the inner circuit, and nothing on day two repeats day one.
Het magische moment · Dag 1
The walk to the back of Angkor Wat
Where the bikes are waiting.
When the light has done its work you do not turn round and go back the way you came. Your guide walks you on through Angkor Wat, gallery by gallery, and out of the eastern gate, where the bikes are leaning against a tree and breakfast is laid out by the moat. You eat with the water beside you and the towers behind you. Then you ride into Angkor Thom with the morning still cool, and the first pedal stroke of the trip happens inside the park.
Same temple, a different hour, and you ride out of it through the trees.
Het magische moment · Dag 2
Preah Khan's long hall, with nobody in it
The outer loop is where Angkor goes quiet.
At Preah Khan you come in through the back and walk a stone hall the length of the temple, with only your own footsteps for sound. At Ta Som a strangler fig has swallowed the east gate the same way it has at Ta Prohm, which you stood in front of the day before, except here you have it to yourself. Neak Pean sits out on its island with the four pools around it. Between each one you are in the forest, so every temple appears out of the trees.
The same Angkor people come for, on the side of the park that stays quiet.

Vragen, beantwoord
FAQ
Does day two repeat anything from day one?
No. Day one is Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm. Day two is the outer loop, which is a separate ring of temples: Preah Khan, Neak Pean, Krol Ko, Ta Som, East Mebon, Srah Srang and Ta Ney. The outer loop contains no Angkor Wat, so nothing is seen twice.
Is two days enough for Angkor?
Two days covers the headline temples and the quiet outer ring without rushing either. Day one gives you Angkor Wat at sunrise plus at least 90 minutes inside it, then Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm. Day two gives you the whole outer loop at a pace you set.
Do I need to be fit? Cycling in the heat sounds like a lot.
No special fitness is needed. Cambodia is flat, so there are no hills, and the pedal-assist takes the work out of the distance and the heat. The only requirement is being able to ride a bicycle. Our youngest cycling guest has been 8 and our oldest 74. Day two is about 45 kilometres, but it is spread across a whole day with temple stops, shade and a long lunch, and you set the pace rather than us.
What if I cannot finish the ride?
Every e-bike day rides with your guide plus one extra staff member, so you are never left with one person managing everything. If you want to stop, whether you are tired or something is wrong with the bike, a tuk-tuk can be arranged to come and get you. There is no support van following the group, and there does not need to be.
How far does the battery go?
The Giant Talon E+ carries a 400 Wh battery, which covers 60 to 100 kilometres depending on the terrain and how much assist you use. Day two is about 45 kilometres, so the range is comfortably ahead of the route. Bikes are checked and fully charged before every departure.
Which Angkor Pass do I need for two days, and can I buy it the day before?
You need a 3-day pass at $62, because there is no 2-day pass: the tiers are 1 day, 3 days and 7 days. The 3-day pass is valid on any 3 days within a 7-day window and those days do not need to be consecutive, so it covers both of your temple days with one day spare. Buying it in advance online at angkorenterprise.gov.kh is the sensible move for this tour, because day one starts at 4:45 AM and you do not want to be standing at a ticket counter.
What should I wear, cycling clothes or temple clothes?
Both, in one outfit. Shoulders and knees must be covered to enter the temples, for men and women alike, so light loose trousers or a long skirt with a sleeved top works for the riding and the temples at the same time. If you plan to climb to the Bakan, the upper level of Angkor Wat, the rule there is stricter: shoulders and knees must be genuinely covered by clothing, and a scarf draped over a tank top is not accepted.
What time is sunrise, and what time do we leave?
We collect you at 4:45 AM from your hotel. Sunrise itself is usually around 5:30 AM and the exact time moves with the season. You are inside Angkor Wat well before it, so there is no rush at the gate.
Wat als het regent?
If it is raining at the start time we postpone rather than push through. Depending on the day that means starting later once the rain clears, or moving the day to the next morning. A sunrise needs a sky to look at, so we do not pretend otherwise.
Mogen kinderen meedoen?
Children need to be at least 110 cm tall and able to ride a bicycle to ride their own e-bike. The 4:45 AM start on day one is worth thinking about as well, because younger children may not enjoy the hour even if they meet the height.
Which meals are included?
Breakfast on day one and lunch on day two. Day one has no lunch because it finishes at noon, so you eat back at your hotel or in town. Breakfast on day one is a picnic by the Angkor Wat moat, and lunch on day two is a sit-down Khmer meal in the forest past Srah Srang.
This is a private tour, so it is just your group. A single guide rides with about six people; larger groups are fine with an additional guide, so message us and we will set it up.
Welke talen spreekt de gids?
English is the default. French, Spanish, Italian and German can be arranged on request, with an extra to cover the specialist guide.
Wat zijn de annuleringsvoorwaarden?
14+ dagen ervoor: volledige terugbetaling
